I Have a Dream

Those of you who followed my previous blog http://www.aminearlythere.blogspot.com/ will recall it was a record of my 2009 LEJoG ride. This blog is hopefully going to be a record of my progress towards my completing the 2010 Police Unity Tour bike ride in the USA.

I have been fortunate enough to get a place to ride with the Chapter 1 ride of law enforcement officers from New Jersey to Washington DC in May 2010 (10th - 14th). This is a ride to raise funds for fallen law enforcement officers in the USA. It is about 320 miles over 4 days and will involve a total of around 1700 riders converging on Washington in a convoy and a candlelight service at the memorial to fallen law enforcement officers.

Its a great experience and a chance to meet other cyclists.

I am hoping to team it up with the New York Five Boroughs Bike Ride on 2nd May. When there is a 42 mile ride around all 5 New York Boroughs and a chance to ride over the famous New York Bridges . The roads are closed to motor vehicles for the time of the ride ( rolling road closures). In between the two events, I am hoping to visit friends in the US, so it should be a great trip.

Anyone fancy joining me?

Hopefully this blog will be a record of my ride and of the preparations for it. The preparations are going well - not. I'm currently off my bike after being hit by a car 2 weeks ago. Great start to the preparation eh? Its the 3rd time I've been hit in the last 5 years by cars. I was hit from behind on a straight road. I only had 5 rear lights on and was wearing a hi viz jacket. I can only presume the driver had left his guide dog at home that night.
